"OLD VIRGIN"
Member No. 714 Doug Gallerno & Joyce Tong
This fine old Richardson, bearing serial number 3243, was purchased by the present owners in the spring of 1999. It had been sitting on the edge of a field for approximately ten years and looked to be in a pretty sorry state. Doug spent twenty-six months restoring her. He did all of the work himself with the exception of some valve work on “Lu Lu”, the original Gray Marine six cylinder engine. The boat was relaunched in the summer of 2001. Since then it has won a number of awards beginning with the Wallaceburg Antique Motor & Boat Outing (WAMBO) “Restoration Excellence Award” in 2001. This was followed by an Antique and Classic Boat Society (ACBS) “Most Original Boat” award also in 2001, and the WAMBO “Antiquity Award” in 2005. OLD VIRGIN was also featured in the Relaunchings section of WoodenBoat magazine in May of 2002. Doug is a frequent contributor to the Cruisabout of articles, photos, and his informative and humorous “Letters from Lu Lu”. OLD VIRGIN and her owners reside in the St.Clair River area of Ontario, Canada.
